Abbey went to WashU again last week (this time without Scott), and she was scheduled to see a real doctor this time. He was pretty normal except that he decided to change the schedule for our clinic visits just like all the doctors do when we see them for the first time.
When Abbey tried to schedule her next appointment, the woman at the desk told her that, because she saw a doctor then, she would have to be seen by the nurse practitioner next time. Wait...that's a rule? Where did they come up with that one??? "It's policy," Abbey was told. "We have too many patients for the doctors to see every time." Absolutely awful. Okay, so, it is our understanding that nurse practitioners have very advanced training in pharmacology and physiology. Thus, they are used to either supplement the care provided by the physicians or to see patients who don't need to see a doctor. Well, we need to see a doctor. Seriously.
